1. Information We Collect

Location Data: When you grant permission, we collect your device's approximate location (latitude and longitude) solely to provide localized weather forecasts. Location data is sent to our weather data provider (OpenWeatherMap) and is not stored on our servers.

Questions to the Honest Weatherman: When you use the Ask feature, your question and location context are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic Claude) to generate a response. Questions are not stored or linked to your identity.

Push Notification Tokens: If you opt in to notifications, your device's push token is stored locally on your device to deliver weather alerts and daily briefings. We do not store push tokens on our servers.

Payment Information: On iOS, subscription payments are processed by Apple through In-App Purchase. On the web, payments are processed by Stripe. We never see, store, or have access to your full credit card number. Apple and Stripe each handle payment data under their own privacy policies.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information exclusively to:

  • Provide accurate, localized weather forecasts for your area
  • Answer your weather-related questions via the Honest Weatherman AI
  • Send weather alerts and daily briefings (if you opt in)
  • Process Pro subscription payments
  • Display relevant advertisements (free tier only, via Google AdSense)

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • OpenWeatherMap — Weather data and geocoding
  • Anthropic (Claude AI) — AI-powered weather Q&A
  • Apple In-App Purchase — Payment processing on iOS
  • Stripe — Payment processing on the web
  • Google AdSense — Advertising on the free tier
  • Vercel — App hosting and delivery

Each service has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Data is only shared with the third-party services listed above as necessary to provide the app's functionality.

5. Data Retention

We do not maintain user accounts or store personal data on our servers. Location data is used transiently to fetch weather data and is not retained. AI questions are processed in real-time and not stored.

6. Your Rights

Since we do not store personal data, there is no personal data to request, modify, or delete. You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device settings. You can unsubscribe from push notifications at any time.

7. Children's Privacy

The Honest Weatherman is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
